Game File Transfer over Local Network feature allows you to transfer game files from other PCs or Steam Deck (and ROG Ally) on your local network. This saves you time since local networks run on 100Mbps at minimum, faster if you have gigabit routers and at least CAT5e network cables or WiFi 5 or WiFi 6 routers, which can reach 500Mbps to 1Gbps. This also saves you internet data if you’re on a data plan. Instead of downloading the entire game from Steam servers, you’ll get the game from another PC or Steam Deck on your local network.
Requirements
- Both the source and the receiver, be it a desktop PC, laptop, or Steam Deck, must be turned on, logged in to Steam accounts, and must be connected on the same local network.
- The game from source must be installed and up-to-date.
- No Steam games running from the source.
- Updates and downloads of other games must be stopped on both sides.
- The source must be on Steam desktop mode, not in Big Picture mode.
